TetraPoland is a non-commercial amateur radio application. This page sets out exactly what the app and the server process, where it goes, and what never leaves your phone. It covers the Android, iPhone and PoC radio applications and the tetra-poland.pl website.

1Who is responsible
The controller is Marcin Brzozowski (SP8MB), who runs the tetra-poland.pl website and the hub.tetra-poland.pl server. Contact: brzoza@inter1.pl.
This is an amateur, non-commercial project. There is no company behind it, no advertising model and no data sales.
2First things first: radio is public
TetraPoland is a radio, not a messenger. Group calls are heard by everyone on that talkgroup, exactly as on the air. Your callsign and ISSI are visible with every transmission to other users and to the operators of the networks you connect to.
This is not an implementation flaw but the nature of amateur radio: identifying yourself by callsign is a duty, not an option. If you need confidentiality, this is not the right tool — the app has no end-to-end encryption and deliberately does not pretend otherwise.
3What the app sends out
- Radio identity
- Your DMR ID / ISSI and callsign, sent at login and with every transmission — to the TetraPoland server, and, should you choose to work talkgroups 91 and above, also to the BrandMeister network. Using BrandMeister is optional; the TetraPoland network stands on its own. DMR IDs are issued by national coordinators against an amateur radio licence.
- Voice
- Microphone audio only while PTT is held. It is streamed through the server to listeners on the same talkgroup and is not stored on the way. The microphone is opened only for the duration of a transmission.
- SDS messages
- Message text and recipient number. The server relays them and keeps no archive. A copy stays in the history on your phone.
- GPS position
- Only if you switch position reporting on — it is off by default. Once enabled, your position appears on the public map at tetra-poland.pl together with your callsign.
- Application identification
- Software name and version and the device type (Android / iPhone / PoC). BrandMeister’s guidelines require this; it also helps diagnose connection problems.
- IP address
- Visible to the server by the very nature of a network connection. It appears in the operator dashboard next to the list of connected stations and in the server log.
Your position can additionally be sent to APRS-IS — a worldwide, fully public amateur network, from where it reaches services such as aprs.fi and is archived there by parties outside our control. A separate switch in the settings controls this and it is off by default: turning on the TetraPoland map does not by itself broadcast your position beyond our system.
4What stays on your device only
- BrandMeister SELF CARE password (optional)
- Needed only if you want to use the BrandMeister network. The TetraPoland network works without it, with full functionality. The password is held in the app’s encrypted storage (AES-256 key in the system keystore), and system backup is disabled for the app, so it never leaves the phone other than when logging in to the network.
- Contacts and talkgroups
- Your contact list, talkgroups and favourites. You may import them from the public radioid.net database — fetching that list is an ordinary request to that service.
- Call and message history
- Your log of calls and SDS messages. It is never uploaded or synchronised.
- Recorded GPS tracks
- If you enable track recording, the files are created and stay locally.
- Settings
- Network, audio, scanning and key configuration.
Uninstalling the app removes all of this with it.
5What the server stores
The hub.tetra-poland.pl server carries traffic and keeps no archive of calls. It stores:
- The list of currently connected stations
- Callsign, ISSI, IP address, app version and connection time — in memory, for the dashboard and diagnostics. The entry disappears when you disconnect.
- System logs
- Records of logins, disconnections and errors, used solely to keep the service running and to troubleshoot stability problems.
- GPS positions
- The only data stored durably, in the time-series database behind the map — and only from stations that enabled reporting.
Call audio is not recorded or stored in any form.
6What we do not do
The app contains no analytics, advertising, tracking, profiling or any third-party SDK. We collect no advertising identifiers, build no user profiles and pass nothing to data brokers. There is no automated decision-making.
We do not ask for access to your phone’s address book, photos or files beyond those you point to yourself during an import or export.
7External networks and services
Connecting to networks run by others hands them data on their terms. We have no influence over what they keep.
- BrandMeister and other DMR networks
- Your DMR ID, callsign and transmissions — when working talkgroups 91 and above and in DMR mode. The same applies to the YSF, FCS, M17 and NXDN networks if you use them.
- APRS-IS
- Position and callsign — only if you switch APRS reporting on yourself (off by default).
- radioid.net
- The public database of callsigns and DMR numbers, queried when importing contacts.
- App stores
- Google Play and Apple TestFlight / App Store distribute the app under their own terms. The build downloaded straight from tetra-poland.pl updates from our server and needs no store account at all.
8Permissions the app asks for
- Microphone
- Transmitting when you press PTT. Opened only for the transmission.
- Location
- Only for reporting your position to the map; unused unless you enable that feature.
- Notifications
- Alerts about incoming calls and messages.
- Bluetooth
- Headsets and wireless PTT buttons.
- Background operation and battery optimisation exemption
- Keeping the connection alive with the screen off — without it the radio goes quiet after a few minutes and you miss calls.
- Accessibility service (website build only)
- Receiving a radio’s hardware keys while the app is in the background. It does not read screen content and collects nothing. The Google Play build does not include this service.
- Installing updates (website build only)
- Downloading and installing a newer version from our server. The store build updates through Google Play and does not have this permission.
9The tetra-poland.pl website
The site counts visits and application downloads in aggregate, without identifying individuals. It uses no advertising cookies and no external analytics tools.
The map and dashboard publicly show the callsigns and positions of stations that enabled reporting themselves, along with the list of currently connected stations.
10How long we keep data
A connected-station entry disappears the moment you disconnect. System logs rotate and are overwritten. GPS positions remain in the map database — if you want yours removed, write to us and we will delete them.
11Children
The app is for amateur radio communication and assumes a licence or a DMR number. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect their data.
12Your rights
You have the right to know what data concerns you, to have it corrected or erased, to object to processing and to withdraw consent — for instance by turning off position reporting, which removes you from the map immediately. One message to the contact address is enough.
Processing rests on consent (position, APRS) and on the legitimate interest of keeping a working communications network running (radio identity, technical logs).
13Changes
If the app starts handling data differently, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated. Significant changes will be announced in the updates channel.
